Sean is an international performer, director and teacher who specializes in contemporary clown, circus and ensemble based theatre. He is co director along with Michaela O’Connor of Kook Ensemble.
He trained as an actor at Rose Bruford School of Speech and Drama and as a circus performer at the National Centre of Circus Arts. However most of his training has been developed by trial and error and learning from some brilliant practitioners.
He has had an incredibly diverse career spanning all forms of performance. As an actor touring the UK extensively in rep, the West End and at the Royal National Theatre Studios. He has had a hugely successful circus career being a long time staple clown for Cirque Du Soleil (Varekai, Kooza, Quidam) creating work and performing for Franco Dragone’s Le Reve in Las Vegas and throwing himself around at great heights at the Millenium Dome. Sean was a co-founder of the the Generating Company and directed their first three shows.
Other directing credits include: “Bohemia”, a coproduction between Underbelly festival and Black Cat Cabaret, which completed a successful run on the South Bank London; large scale arena “Elektron” show in Macau 2019; “The Bridge” an outdoor site specific show developed for Coventry City of Culture; “Love Through Double Glazing” for the London Mime Festival and Vamos Theatre, which I cowrote and performed in; directed Secret Cinema’s co production with Kook and Revel Puck’s Circus Show for EE; movement director for “The Fabulist” for Charing Cross Theatre.
Sean has just completed directing “Filibuster” for Tom Gaskin a solo juggling clown show currently touring with Kook Ensemble. Kook also completed an R&D of Sand last year and planning a 2024 UK tour.
Alongside all this work he is a passionate teacher focusing on clown, physical performance and material creation.
